Unity shows by Parliament on Trump’s statement against Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Some 32 political parties sitting in the parliament have condemned the American President Trump’s anti Pakistan tweet and threats of surgical strikes. The in- camera session of Parliamentary Committee on National Security was held under the chairmanship of Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in which all parties parliamentary leaders participated. It was decided in the meeting that a meeting of the parliamentary committee would also be convened next week in which the representatives of national security institutions would also be invited. They will brief the parliament on present situation in the country, defence and foreign affairs. The meeting expressed concern at the assertion of US President and condemned it. After the meeting, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq told the journalists that Pakistan wants to give a strong and balanced reaction on the US President’s statement. He said that the parliament is not indifferent on defence of the country. He said that all political parties have consensus on it and they are all on one page pertaining to national security, defence and prestige of Pakistan. He said in the meeting the security of Pakistan has been kept in high esteem. He said next week they will summon the army leadership to mull over the matters pertaining to defence. It is also learnt that parliamentary leaders of all political parties have been briefed on the national security committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. Meanwhile a meeting of federal cabinet was held on US President’s statement and it discussed at length all the details.
